GP Care’s approach to Health & Safety is very different. We come to the subject from a training not a Health & Safety point of view. Never nit-picking at exactly what sub-section of which Regulation has been broken but rather - how to get it sorted!
This is a Health & Safety tooplkit written by practice managers for practice managers, together with ongoing support and advice from local experts.
Health & Safety isn’t a Dark Art - it can be sorted with a minimum of time, cost and effort!
Service – The service comprises two key elements:
- Health and Safety Compliance - Core to this service is a Health & Safety Compliance Pack which has been developed over many years and which is continually updated as legislation changes and new Best Practice comes to light.
The Pack can be used on its own, as a remote learning and implementation package (YOU DO IT) or with the Fast Track Option (WE DO IT). Surgeries often prefer, however, to take advantage of Practice-based, coaching or training sessions ((WE DO IT TOGETHER) or keep us on a Retainer (WE KEEP ON DOING IT TOGETHER). Tutors are extremely flexible about timings and the frequent necessity of rearranging dates to accommodate busy Practices.
Half-day, locally based group workshops are particularly popular amongst Practice Managers and Nursing staff. The mix of delegates from a variety of Surgeries makes for easy sharing of Best Practice and the undoubted benefits of networking. Certificates are always issued and these can be used not only as evidence for NVQs but also against IiP and QOF Competency Standards.
- Risk Management and Disaster Recovery - A highly practical approach to managing risk, comprising the likes of preparation of fire risk assessments , general risk assessments specific to the practice’s needs
Risk management is often treated as a theoretical process with far too little input from the real world. This goes against the blindingly obvious fact that it is exactly those risks and hazards that have to be assessed! Our trainers always deal in practical realities. When speaking to GP Partners, Practice Managers or Nursing staff, examples are specific and meaningful to Primary Care. Delegates are challenged to change their perceptions and attitudes to deal with subjects in a pro-active manner. The lively delivery style ensures that participants actually enjoy getting to grips with subjects thought either boring beyond belief or too complicated to even know where to start.
Provider – GP Care is providing this service in association with Linden Ruskin Training Limited who specialise in the delivery of Heatlh and Safety training within primary care.
LR Training has been successfully operating for thirteen years, working nationally from an operating base in Burnham on Sea. LR Training is a highly capable and professional organisation.
Linden Ruskin, Managing Director, is Chair of the Avon Occupational Safety & Health Group (AOSH) and the Health & Safety Training Provider for a number of PCTs & LMCs.
Previous feedback on LR Training –
“Really excellent (especially for such a dry subject). Possibly best trainer I’ve had on a PCT run course! Thanks.”
“A very worthwhile, to-the-point training session. It was delivered in a very refreshing light-hearted format, which did not in any way detract from the seriousness of the subject. The tutor obviously understood completely what General Practice was about!”
“Thank you for the excellent workshop which we all feel has transformed the attitudes of the entire Practice Managers’ Group. All of us can now report back to our Partners knowing not just what has to be done and how but – more importantly – the why to get them on board”.
“Excellent! Factual information that I was not aware of & therefore informative but also very interesting. Super support materials to take away & use in a pro-active way.”
“I was never interested in health and safety but having attended a “Your Policy Document Sorted!” workshop you inspired me with enthusiasm. I came as a reluctant participant but left raring to go.”
Cost – The cost of the service is dependent on what level of support is required. What is clear is that the economy of scale of one organisation preparing documentation is enormous thereby enabling the service to be provided at a cost that is a huge discount on what individual practices would have to pay to set up their own Health & Safety infrastructure.
