GP Care's Community DVT Service, which is being provided to patients from practices in South Gloucestershire and Bristol (North and Inner City), has now seen its 2000th patient and has received excellent feedback from patients, GPs and PCT commissioners.
In brief, the Service provides:
• Near patient D-dimer blood testing;
• Same or next day ultrasound with same day reporting back to referring GPs; and
• Community based anticoagulation.
This community-based service represents a radical improvement in patient pathway and has had consistently excellent patient feedback. The Service also delivers very significant savings to PCT commissioners on account of a highly efficent service design.
