GP Care develops local Patient Record Network

The GP Care Patient Record Network (PRN) is due to launch in a matter of weeks, with final preparations currently taking place. Over 60% of practices within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) are now signed up to the PRN.

If a BNSSG practice is still not streaming and would like to be included in the PRN, please call 0333 332 2100 for priority inclusion on the waiting list.

The PRN, which is a BNSSG focused initiative, will be launched in three phases:
1. Data sharing – providing the likes of Out of Hours providers and GPwSIs with access to key components of patient records (subject to control by individual practices and patient consent);
2. Electronic discharge reporting – electronic transmission of discharge reports back into patient records (via an ‘in-box’) – i.e. less scanning of paper records;
3. Data analysis – high quality analysis of primary care data combined with secondary care activity data, providing information to support commissioning decisions and undertake predictive analysis of patient groups most likely to require high levels of secondary care intervention.

As well as providing practices with a free, secure backup of all patient records, data streaming allows practice staff to familiarise themselves with the functionality of EMIS Web, should practices wish to fully migrate at a later date.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the PRN we would be delighted to come to your practice; if you feel this would be helpful then please contact GP Care on 0333 332 2100.
