Community Ultrasound Services

 

The Service
GP Care has been successfully delivering diagnostic services, including community based ultrasound services since 2008 and providing a comprehensive range of scans including:

  • General Abdominal - to include Liver, Gall Bladder, Pancreas, Spleen, Kidneys, aorta & IVC;
  • Renal tract - to include Kidneys, Bladder & Prostate;
  • Pelvic - to include Uterus, Ovaries & Adnexae;
  • Musculoskeletal - to include Joints & Soft Tissue Lumps;
  • Scrotum - to include Testes and Scrotum.

As part of other clinical service pathways we also provide the following scans:

  • Leg dopplers;
  • Pregnancy Reassurance.

Referrals and Referral Forms

Where we are contracted with a CCG we can accept NHS patient referrals via fax (to 0845 625 2113) or via secure email (to gpcare.imaging@nhs.net).  Go to the 'Clinic locations' section below to access the relevant Referral Form.

Clinic locations
Our service model includes the delivery of this service from multiple convenient clinic locations, all of which are easily accessed by patients, have good public transport links and ample free parking - thereby giving choice to patients.

GP Care currently provides multiple ultrasound clinics within each of the following CCG areas, giving a good geographical spread across each area: Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Walsall (please note that our service in Walsall will stop as from 31st May 2017. Referrals will still be accepted until 12th May.)

Ultrasound equipment
Ultrasound examinations are carried out using high specification portable ultrasound units, which are easily transported between sites, making it possible to deliver the service from multiple locations across a working week and/or at weekends.

The ultrasound team
Our team currently comprises a network of consultant radiologists, a large team of HPC registered ultrasonographers and a large team of Health Care Assistant’s (HCA’s), who work together to deliver a high standard of clinical care. We also have a close relationship with other consultant radiologists who provide in-house training to our teams to ensure that they are properly equipped to continue delivering high quality care. This relationship with consultant radiologists, is hugely positive and enables us to smooth the transition of any patients requiring more complex imaging into hospitals.

The clinical team are supported by an experienced administration team that ensures the service is patient focused, efficiently delivered with minimal patient DNA’s (Did Not Attend) – thereby delivering an excellent service to patients.  The whole team work together to ensure the patient’s overall experience is excellent, as our patient feedback shows.

Patient Focus
This award winning service has quickly grown in volume and scope and now includes not only direct access ultrasound scans but also provides NHS ultrasound scans for patients in prison and for patients attending NHS Community Urology and DVT diagnostic and treatment services.

We offer a personalised service:  we talk to patients and deliver excellent clinical care in a way that is friendly, convenient and well administered. Our methods are as follows:

  • We provide patients with a telephone number to call in the event of queries. Telephone lines are open from 8.00am to 8.00pm with all calls being answered by a member of the admin team, rather than by an answering machine or messaging service;
  • We provide patients with full explanation of the procedure that will take place.

Patient Volumes
As a result of our patient focus and high quality clinical care our services are very well received by patients. Patient volumes have consistently increased year on year as patients and GPs become increasingly aware of us as an alternative to receiving care at hospitals which are frequently overloaded with patients.

Patient Feedback
All patients are given a patient satisfaction questionnaire, which can be completed at the time or taken away. The response rate to this is upwards of 48%. Since commencing the service in 2008 88% of patients have rated our service as ‘Excellent’, 11% as ‘Very Good’, 1% as ‘Good’ and we have genuinely never been rated as 'Below Average' or ‘Poor’ which is a testament to the smooth functioning of our administration pathway and the quality of our clinical teams.
