Free Pharmacy Delivery Service

GP Care Pharmacy's Free Pharmacy Delivery Service is a service that can deliver repeat prescriptions direct to patients' homes, their place of work or any other nominated UK address, at no delivery cost to the patient.

The service is designed to improve patient access to pharmacy services and reduce the administrative burden on GP practices associated with repeat prescriptions thereby allowing GPs to spend more time with their patients.

From a Bristol based warehouse to be opened shortly this service will ultimately deliver all forms of pharmacy prescription including controlled drugs, drugs requiring refrigeration and drugs presented in dosset boxes.

Key attributes of the service are as follows:

What is it?
We manage the ordering and collection of your repeat prescriptions from your surgery and we deliver your medicines direct to your home or any delivery address of your choice - including your local Post Office. The service is initially being run by Assura Pharmacy from their Ropewalks store in Liverpool.

How does the service work?
One to two weeks before your repeat medication runs out a member of our dedicated team will contact you and take your repeat prescription order.
We will confirm the following information:
• which drugs or appliances are on your prescription or
repeat prescription;
• if you have any concerns or special requests; and
• your delivery address;
• your expected delivery date.

We will then contact your GP and request your repeat prescription which they will send to the pharmacy. Your medicines will then be dispensed by our fully trained pharmacy team and we will arrange to deliver your medicines to an address of your choice.

Am I able to use this service?
For the moment we are only able to accept patients over 60 years of age. We hope to expand this in the near future. This service is only suitable for patients who are able to get repeat prescriptions for a period without seeing their GP or nurse. Due to delivery times, this service is not normally suitable for medicines which are taken for short courses, such as antibiotics. Please call us if you are unsure.

Will I always get my medication repeated without seeing someone?
Your GP or nurse will normally allow a set number of repeat prescriptions of each suitable medicine. When these prescriptions have run out, your GP or nurse will normally need to see you, or arrange some blood tests, before deciding whether to issue further repeats. Should your surgery tell us that you have run out of repeats, we will let you know. Should we attempt to order a repeat for you, and we are told your repeats have run out, we will contact you as soon as possible to discuss this.

When will I get my delivery?
When we take your repeat prescription order we will give you an indication of an expected delivery date in order to ensure you do not run out of medication. Deliveries may happen at any time Monday to Saturday.

Can I specify a particular day or time for delivery?
We cannot currently guarantee that your prescription will arrive on any particular date, although we hope to be able to offer this as an additional service in the future.

What if I am out when my delivery arrives?
All our medication is delivered by the Royal Mail’s First Class Recorded Delivery Service and will require a signature on delivery. Anyone at the delivery address can sign for it. We cannot deliver to any address other than your specified delivery address. If there is no-one to sign for your delivery, it will be taken back to the local Royal Mail delivery office and a card will be left explaining how you can collect the parcel or arrange re-delivery.
