GP Care is offering an Ovarian Screening Service to GP Practices and their patients in the wider Bristol area at a cost of only £70.
Ovarian screening
The ovaries can be screened to check for any abnormal cysts or masses which may suggest the presence of cancer using ultrasound.
Ovarian cancer
Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women in the UK. It accounts for about 3% of all cancers in women and mainly develops in older women with about half of the women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer being 60 years or older.
Most women who develop ovarian cancer display very few symptoms until the cancer has spread outside of the uterus, by which time it is less treatable and many women will die as a result of the cancer. If ovarian cancer is diagnosed before it has a chance to spread, treatment is more successful and the patient’s outcome is better.
What is an ultrasound scan?
An ultrasound scan is a painless and non-invasive examination. Our experienced team of Ultrasonographers use the latest technology to provide images of organs and blood vessels within the body.
Ultrasound is used in the UK to diagnose ovarian cancer in patients with symptoms. The ultrasound scan can be abnormal in the early stage of ovarian cancer.
The cost
The cost of the Service is £70, this includes:-
- a twenty minute appointment with one of our experienced Sonographers;
- a report for the patient to take away;
- a copy of the report being sent to the patient's registered GP Practice to ensure completeness of the patient's medical record.
Locations
The Service is currently available from 4 locations within South Gloucestershire and North Bristol – Christchurch (Downend), Yate (West Walk), Almondsbury and Westbury-On-Trym (Greenway Community Practice). Further delivery locations will be introduced shortly.

Our dedicated service team is available Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm.
