Further information
Influenza (Flu) is a viral infection affecting the respiratory system. It usually strikes between October and May. Flu generally lasts for 5-7 days but complications can mean that it lasts for up to 3 weeks. Although often just very unpleasant, flu can be more dangerous and is occasionally fatal.
Only those aged 65 or over, carers and those with certain medical conditions are entitled to a free NHS vaccination. Those who do not qualify for the free vaccination can choose to pay for it privately.
